Major sins in Islam as mentioned in the Quran and Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad . Shamsuddin Adh - Dhahabi ( شمس الدين الذهبن ) in the book of Al - Kabair ( Great Sins ) describes in detail the sin which fall into the category of major sins complete with the arguments from the Quran and hadith . Here , only 5 ( five ) major sins are listed which we consider very important . The fifth major sins listed below do not include Shirk . Because the Kufr Shirk same meaning out of Islam . 70 Major Sins In Adh - Dhahabi in al - Kabair ( الكبائر )
SHIRK
Idolatry is the greatest sin in Islam . Shirk means leaving Islam is commonly called the apostate . Apostate is caused by several things, among others :
1 . Moved to another religion ( conversion ) as Christian , Jewish , Hindu , Buddhist , Confucian , Zoroastrian , atheist , etc. .
2 . Proscribe case lawful or unlawful justify such cases shall not consider praying 5 times , fasting Ramadan , etc. .
3 . Doing great sin, and does not regard it as a sin .
KILL
Killing or murder is a very big sin . Based on the following arguments :
1 . QS ( Quran Surah ) Al - Maidah 5:32 :
أنه من قتل نفسا بغير نفس أو فساد في الأرض فكأنما قتل الناس جميعا ومن أحياها فكأنما أحيا الناس جميعا
Meaning : He who kills a person , not because people were killing other people , or for mischief in the earth , it is as if he has killed all mankind . Whoever saved a life , it is as if he saved the life of all human beings .
2 . Surah Al - An `am 6:151
ولا تقتلوا ٱلنفس ٱلتى حرم ٱلله إلا بٱلحق
Meaning : Do not kill the person who Allah has forbidden except for the right reasons .
According to Tafsir Qurtubi , which is forbidden to kill Muslims and non-Muslims are infidels muahadah who has a covenant of peace with the Islamic state .
3 . Hadith of the Prophet narrated by Bukhari and Muslim ( muttafaq alaih ) :
لا يحل دم امرئ مسلم يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله إلا بإحدى ثلاث : الثيب الزاني والنفس بالنفس والتارك لدينه المفارق للجماعة
Meaning : It is not lawful blood of a Muslim who reads the creed except for three things: the adulterous widow , had killed people , leaving religion and split off from the Muslim pilgrims .
4 . Hadith of the Prophet narrated by Bukhari :
اجتنبوا السبع الموبقات ) ) , قيل : يا رسول الله , وما هن ? قال : ( ( الإشراك بالله والسحر وقتل النفس التي حرم الله إلا بالحق
Meaning : Stay away from seven (7 ) major sins . Asked : What are the Messenger of Allah ? The Prophet said : Shirk in Allah , magic , killing except for the right reasons .
STEALING / CORRUPTION
Stealing or taking the right person or people illegally. Included in this category is corruption and plunder . The act of stealing is a sin because undermine order and harmony in society . Dalinya arguments are as follows :
1 . Surah Al - Maidah 5:38 :
والسارق والسارقة فاقطعوا أيديهما جزاء بما كسبا نكالا من الله والله عزيز حكيم
Meaning : The men and women who steals , cut off both hands ( as ) reply from their actions .
2 . Surah Al - Mumtahanah 60:12 :
يا أيها النبي إذا جاءك المؤمنات يبايعنك على أن لا يشركن بالله شيئا ولا يسرقن ولا يزنين ولا يقتلن أولادهن
Meaning : O Prophet , if believing women come to you to hold the allegiance ( allegiance ) , that they will not associate anything with Allah , not to steal , not to commit adultery and will not kill their children ..
Adultery / AFFAIR
Adultery is sexual relations outside of marriage either consensual or not . Adultery is one of the major sins in Islam . Zina beginning arising from the mixing of men and women freely . Therefore , seclusion ( alone among the opposite sex who is not mahram banned banned ) adultery ban arguments are as follows :
1 . Surah Al - Isra ' 17:32
ولا تقربوا لزنى إنه كان فاحشة وساء سبيلا
Meaning : Come not nigh to fornication; ( adultery ) was indeed an indecency and an evil way .
2 . Surah An - Nur 24:2 :
الزانية والزاني فاجلدوا كل واحد منهما مائة جلدة ولا تأخذكم بهما رأفة في دين الله إن كنتم تؤمنون بالله واليوم الآخر وليشهد عذابهما طائفة من المؤمنين
Meaning : Pezina female and male adulterer , deralah 100 times , respectively , and let not pity for both preventing you to ( run ) religion ( laws ) of Allah , if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day , and let their punishment be witnessed olhe most of the people who believe .
ALCOHOL / DRUGS
Drinking alcoholic beverages either a lot or a little is haraam and a major sin . Including taking drugs and all forms of abuse of drugs such as ectassy , and others. The evidence as follows :
1 . Surah Al - Baqarah 2:219 :
يسألونك عن الخمر والميسر قل فيهما إثم كبير ومنافع للناس وإثمهما أكبر من نفعهما
Meaning : They ask thee (O Muhammad ) concerning wine and gambling . Say , "In them is great sin, and some profit, for men . , But sin outweigh the benefits . "
2 . Surah Al - Maidah 5:90 :
يا أيها الذين آمنوا إنما الخمر والميسر والأنصاب والأزلام رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه لعلكم تفلحون
Meaning : O those who believe, in fact liquor , gambling , ( sacrificing to ) idols , and cast lots with arrows fate , is indecency and include Satanic. So shun ( deeds ) that ye were lucky .
3 . Surah Al - Maidah 5:91 :
إنما يريد الشيطان أن يوقع بينكم العداوة والبغضاء في الخمر والميسر ويصدكم عن ذكر الله وعن الصلاة فهل أنتم منتهون
Meaning : With the liquor and gambling are merely intended to cause enmity and hatred among you , and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and salat then do not you want to quit ?

Islam is synonymous with 5 ( five ) pillars . Not implementing the five pillars of Islam 5 intentionally or not is a big sin . Namely , creed , five daily prayers, paying zakat , fasting Ramadan , and Hajj if able .
